After an out was recorded, Mike Trout stepped in and he doubled. Yoenis Cespedes dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Evan Gattis came up and he was hit by a pitch. The critical plate appearance was by Brandon Barnes who brought the crowd to their feet when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. Colorado ended up with 12 hits for the game while New York (NL) had 7. Roberto Hernandez(11-8) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 5 innings. Hernandez got help from Papelbon who was credited with his 39th save. The losing pitcher was Jon Niese(11-10). His ERA ballooned from 2.67 to 2.93 as he allowed 6 runs in 4 innings. Bruce had a big day against Washington. He doubled plating two runs in the 5th inning, belted a three-run homer in the 7th inning and stroked a single in the 9th inning. Milwaukee banged out 10 hits on the night. The victory was credited to Volquez(3-15) who went the distance, allowing 1 run. The right-handed Volquez lost his no-hit bid when Elvis Andrus singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Bruce Chen(2-14) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Washington's manager said. Volquez pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'

Aaron Hill stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a single. Jason Heyward then rifled a three-run blast. Marco Estrada got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Pittsburgh ended up with 9 hits for the game while San Francisco had 6. Estrada(3-1) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Tony Watson earned the save, his 9th.
