LOUIS Giants.......... 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 7 0 Cardinals....... 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 6 0 Win:Cole(11-5) Loss:Stults(5-8) Save:Neshek(21st) Homeruns- B.Posey(17th) The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the San Francisco Giants 3 to 2 at Busch Stadium in a hard fought contest. St. Louis plated all the runs they needed in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Matt Carpenter kicked off the action when he smacked a single. Alcides Escobar next to the plate and he was hit by a pitch. After an out was recorded, Matt Holliday was hit by a pitch. After another out, Brandon Belt came to bat and banged out a single. Kolten Wong came up to bat and doubled. That early scoring was all that Gerrit Cole(11-5) needed. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning. Cole got help from Pat Neshek who was credited with his 21st save. Eric Stults(5-8) suffered the loss. 'He gutted it out' St. Louis' manager said of Cole. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
