Dickey(3-11) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Boston Red Sox finally emerged victorious over Houston Astros, 3 to 1. Houston surrendered all of the runs Boston needed in the 1st inning scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Houston had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Kendrick got help from John Axford who earned his 2nd save. 'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' Houston's manager said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.' Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The winning pitcher was Edinson Volquez(1-11) who allowed 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Yoervis Medina earned his 6th save. Roenis Elias(2-7) took the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 6 hits and no walks. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Milwaukee's manager said after the game. 'Volquez did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!' SAN DIEGO AT ST. Arrieta(7-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Craig Kimbrel was credited with his 25th save. The losing pitcher was Luke Gregerson(2-3). The Atlanta ballclub's record now stands at 50-30. Philadelphia will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 9-1 run - and not a start of a new trend.
