Phil Gosselin came to the plate and stroked a one-base hit. Roenis Elias then laid down a sacrifice bunt. James Jones was up next and he hit a single. One out later, Asdrubal Cabrera came to bat and laced a base-hit to load the bases. Swisher kept the inning going and grounded into a double play. Esmil Rogers relieved and was untouched by New York (NL) as he recorded the save, his 1st. Elias(2-6) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings. Stephen Strasburg(6-6) took the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 3 innings. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Elias said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'

Mark Melancon earned his 26th save. Johnny Cueto(5-6) ended up with the loss. He gave up 1 run and 8 hits in 6 innings. Trevor Bauer(4-10) was hit with the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Shields - except Arizona. Arizona's manager lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
