The Minnesota Twins won by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. Minnesota came up with 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning when they came up with 5 base hits. The highlight belonged to Leonys Martin who deflated the crowd as he laced a base-knock scoring two baserunners. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Pedro Strop(5-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Strop was helped out by Kenley Jansen who recorded his 12th save. Ricky Nolasco(2-4) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. Pittsburgh's manager was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks me off!'

Chirinos then lofted a three-run 'big-fly'. One out later, Kurt Suzuki was the next batter, but he struck out. Texas out-hit Boston for the game, 11 hits to 8. Nick Tepesch(3-2) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Grimm recorded the save, his 2nd. Juan Nicasio(1-4) was hit with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.

The crucial at-bat was provided by Alex Rios who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he lined a one-base hit plating two runs. Cincinnati was out-hit by Kansas City, 17 hits to 10. The win went to Max Scherzer(5-3) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Justin Verlander(1-8) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. Kansas City now has a record of 16-25. Cincinnati can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks. ST. The right-handed Guthrie had his no-hit bid broken up by Matt Holliday who homered with one out in the 8th inning. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
